Happy Earth Week: Spring Day of Service with the Schoolhouse Garden

This service project finished removing sod from the area for our upcoming building projects. It is amazing the amount of human labor it takes to remove sod! However, it is a necessary requirement in this location. Underneath the grassy field is mostly sand, in order for the field to drain effectively. When changing from a field to garden, there are a number of challenges and it takes time to get that space to a point where it produces quality vegetables. During our work party, we removed around 5 truckloads of sod and transported it to Lane Forest Products. It seemed to be a lot of effort but it will be worth it!
